I am now slowly but surely getting settled at this age and time, in a new place. There was only one thing missing! Guess what? Yes, someone to share with regularly your thoughts, your vision, your ideas etc. I asked myself, ‘Do I really need anyone?’ I started with that thought. That time I had too many things in my mind. I was not settled. I had to build my own engagements, my own life, my ecosystem in a completely new place. So that was on my mind most of the time. But, over these months, I have been able... Everyone who knows me well, knows that if there was one place I wanted to die for, it was PCL. But it was not to be. We started the company together, six friends in 1983/84 and took it to the pinnacle of name, fame, glory. And then it started cracking, then it became brittle and finally broke, and broke real bad. For many, there were tears in their eyes when it happened. For many, PCL was not just a company to work for, but it was their very existence, their life, their energy, their motivation to live better and do... View Article

After I got out of day-to-day company running responsibilities and passed my businesses to my sons, Rahul and Romit, I wondered what will be my engagement model now? A lot of people define relaxation, pleasure, engagements etc. as also going to see different places, having fun, meeting relatives and friends, having social engagements, play some sport, even listen to your favourite music as some of the elements of this new life. I was constantly asking myself the question, is that my engagement model by choice, which will give me maximum happiness and joy? So, I started in right earnest, with... View Article

It’s been little over a year, that I came over to Dubai. Initially, I came to spend some time with my son Romit and his family and our very own Mishka. Then, Romit’s twin brother Rahul, came over, started working from here. Having spent a lot of time in USA, they were quite comfortable in remote working and ran their companies with full responsibility and authority, almost entirely from Dubai. This had an impact on me, and I was getting restless as I did not have very serious engagement, after handing over the businesses to my sons. In Kolkata, I... View Article

When you have such a dear friend, as dear as one like Santosh, one doesn’t even think of a life without one another. Maybe because, even in the case of parents, as you grow up, you are reminded of their absence one day and you need to face up to things without them, but not for a dear friend. Santosh Pande was my best friend. No question about it. We were together in school (bench mates), then in IIT Kharagpur, and then on to our executive life in Delhi. He married Ratna, who I knew from childhood as well, as... View Article

“Jeevan ke safar mein rahi, milte hain bichhar jaane ko….. Aur de jaate hai yaadein, tanhai mein tarpaane ko” When we listened to this song for the first time, what attracted our attention? The romanticism of Dev Saab or the drive with his film’s girlfriend, Nalini Jayant or is it the wordings of the song? As I sit today on the terrace of my Dubai home, overlooking the endless horizon, thinking of my very close friend Santosh, who succumbed yesterday to the Almighty’s call, and think of the wordings of this song, it throws a different perspective to life for... After crossing several rounds of RT-PCRs and results showing ‘negative,’ we landed at Dubai Airport. There was Emirates limo waiting for us to drive down to Marriott Marques. Five days later, I shifted to Marriott Harbour Hotel by choice, as nature always attracts me. Here with a sea facing 27th floor 2-bed room suite, I kept gazing at the unending sky and the expanse of the sea. I was thinking if only our lives had the same un-ending horizon, it would have been so exciting. The small private aircrafts, flying out of the helipads and the paragliders trooping on them,...
