I am a Senior Citizen. Having said that, I have been following the political and governance activities very closely over the last few months. It beats me to see that the entire administrative and political machinery has been converted into a single vote getting mechanism, both ways of the elections. No longer ideology, thought, life lessons turn into election instruments before the elections anymore. Rather, it is election governance mechanism all through that works and is made to work. Never ever in our lives before, the need to think about only yourself was greater than today. Thanks to Covid-19. We really can’t help thinking about anyone, as we cannot do or act for them anymore. Everyone is left to themselves today. Your direct small nucleus family is perhaps the only place where you can at least see, feel, think about others. But that is also not advisable. In business, changes happen every 7/10 years and can be termed as incremental. We often meet people in our life’s journey, who we call “bad losers”. In corporate life, if that happens, we simply try and avoid such people. What an election!! When I left Kolkata to be with my son in Dubai, it was September ’20. Bengal elections were clear 8 months away, but we could feel the buzz in the air. There was a clear indication that a storm will happen and Bengal maybe swept away. In the subsequent months, I watched with great interest how things started to unfurl. We can quite easily pass this buck onto saying this is Covid 2nd wave and it has happened in many countries, so India is no exception. Then we open the TV Sets to watch the calamities and the catastrophe the disease has led us to. People dying on the roads, no Oxygen, no Hospital beds, no medicines, doctors are over stressed, there is vaccine shortage and these are all official news.
