25th April ’21,Sunday, will always remain a key day in my life. On this day, I lost my life-long friend of 46 years, Deepak Ranjan Gupta (Rana) to COVID-19. We met in Vizag in the 1970s when he used to come on behalf of his company M/s Kusum Products from Kolkata. We met through a common friend, Arun, and then it was mutual chemistry. Domination of political administration in our daily lives, perhaps was never felt by the society which I belong or belonged so far as I am feeling now. This seems to have crossed all limits of social, community or peaceful living. As money is flowing, from all kinds of ways, it is a myth to ask for “reforms” in this space. When creative people age, they face a challenge. For singers, artistes, dancers, age is a factor in reducing their activities and hence their popularity somewhat diminishes which leads to a mental challenge. Creative thinkers, philosophers, visualizers, architects and intellectuals feel lost unless they take refuge in spirituality. Everyone must realise ageing is a difficult time for them. Elections to 5 states in India is on. These are supposedly for local state Assembly constituencies. West Bengal, my home state, is one such. Over the last few months and more so, there is pandemonium around. The political sensitiveness of the State, gives rise to all kind of activities, disruptions, deliberations, which appear highly polarised and is disturbing. My father was a government officer under the administrative service and his retirement age was 58. He was pretty young when he retired. He was already into his writings and got involved in it. These days, people retire mostly at 65. A clean 7 years more. What about people like me who have invested last 30+ years into building, creating, developing, failing, re-building, growing, stabilising……an enterprise, in a truthful, professional manner and given it all you could. As a student of Behaviourial Science and its natural development with age and time, I have noticed different people respond to different situations differently. At times, they do realise through their intelligence and wisdom, that their acts make no sense, but the society has kept them shackled for so many years, that to break free from that shackle is an upheaval task.
